Chingawassa Days buttons on sale for first weekend in June

Country singer Phil Vassar will be the featured performer at the June 4 Chingawassa Days concert.Chingawassa Days is less than a month away and organizers are making final preparations.

As in year’s past, the event will include children’s activities, vendors, live entertainment, a beer garden and much more.

Sheila Hett, Chingawassa Steering Committee public relations, said buttons for the three-day event on June 3, 4 and 5, went on sale May 2 at its website at chingawassadays.com, and businesses in Marion and Hillsboro.

In Marion, buttons can be purchased at Ampride, Carlson’s Grocery, City of Marion, Central National Bank, Marion National Bank, Tampa State Bank, Western Associates and Lanning Pharmacy.

In Hillsboro, she said, Ampride and Panzer Chiropractic are selling buttons.

The advantage of buying buttons prior to May 27 is a $15 discount, Hett said.

Buttons purchased from now until May 27 are $25 each, but from May 28 and at the gate will be $40.

Saturday Day Pass only is $10, but does not include concerts, barbecue or other premier events, she added.

Live entertainment on Friday night includes Cloverton, a rock Christian group, at 7 p.m., opening for Lindsay Ell at 9 p.m.

Ell is an up-and-coming country singer, she said.

“We are excited to have her come to our little town of Marion,” she said.

Saturday’s evening entertainment starts off at 6 p.m. with Pete Gile, a 2002 graduate of Kansas State University, Hett said.

“Pete calls himself ‘a small town troubadour—that’s who I am and what I do,’” she said.

In addition to Gile, Hett said, a talented bluegrass, rocking country artist, Coco O’Connor, is also opening for Phil Vassar on Saturday.

“Our Chingawassa board is so excited to announce our Saturday night headliner, country music star singer, songwriter and pianist Phil Vassar, who will take Saturday night’s stage at 9 p.m.,” she said.

Events this year, Hett said, include a barbecue, pancake feed, kids’ crafts, the 5K Rhino Run, bed races, bike races, hula hoop contest, Dinky Duck races, rock-paper-scissors tournament, Rhino sculpting contest, water balloon volleyball, tug of war, hot-dog eating contest and much more.
