Chili cookoff raises $1,250 for improvements at county lake

Twelve-year-old Remington Putter of Marion hawks his ?12 year old chili? at the fourth annual Marion County Lake Chili Coookoff on Saturday. Remington was a strong competitor among the 17 vendors who participated, but the $65 first-place went to the Wichitatas, with $40 for second going to Karl Schafer and $25 for third to Gordon Pendergraft. Jeff Sexton won the Competitors Trophy. About 214 tasting kits were issued this year compared to 148 in 2009. The fundraiser generated $1,250 for new trees, barbecue grills and fire rings for the park.
