Cooperative Grain & Supply and the Ampride stores in Hillsboro and Marion presented checks Friday totaling $4,364 to four food banks in Marion County. Pictured are (from left) Laura Legg, Ampride stores manager; James Enns, chair of the CG&S Board of Directors; Ron Sommerfeld, representing the Canton Ministerial Alliance; Phil Schmidt, representing the Tabor Mennonite Church food bank that serves the Goessel area; and Kimberly Swaney, director of Main Street Ministries and its food bank that serves the Hillsboro area. The Marion County Emergency Food Bank in Marion also received a check but did not have a representative present. The funds were possible because of the participation CG&S and Ampride in the ?Feeding Our Communities? program sponsored by the Minnesota-based Land O?Lakes Foundation. The program provides matching funds to encourage local cooperatives to donate to area food banks. This is the fifth year CG&S has participated in the program. Since 2004, the participation of CG&S in the Land O?Lakes ?Helping Rural Communities? effort has resulted in contributions exceeding $50,854, including $33,818 distributed to various community programs and $17,036 to food banks.
