Cairns receives $2,000 national FFA scholarship

Mitch Guetterman, manager of the Prairieland Partners John Deere dealership in Marion, presents Aidan Cairns of the Marion-Florence FFA Chapter a $2,000 scholarship from the National FFA Organization. The scholarship was sponsored by the John Deere corporation represented locally by Prairieland Partners. Cairns received the scholarship at the Marion High School Awards Night program Thursday, May 11. This year the National FFA Organization distributed 1,883 scholarships from more than 8,300 applicants. Selections were based on the applicant’s leadership, academic record, FFA and other school and community activities, supervised agricultural or work experience in agricultural education and future goals. Cairns is planning to attend Kansas State University in the fall and major in chemical engineering. She also is pursuing her goal of becoming a state FFA officer during the upcoming State FFA Convention.
