Art & Music Stroll returning to Marion

In celebration of summer, the third annual Art & Music Stroll is planned from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, along Main Street in Marion.

Jan Davis, owner of Gallery 101 of the Flint Hills and one of the event organizers, said dozens of musicians and visual artists will be available.

Included in the event will be a sculpture garden, art gallery, specialty and antique shops, eateries, historic landmarks and the old downtown park.

?Book signings, demonstrations, mule team wagon rides, home-churned ice cream and baked pies,? she said, will also be part of the activities.

One of the artists Davis highlighted is Tobias Flores, who teaches sculpture at Fort Hays State University.

?His art is sometimes conceptually and sometimes formal,? she said. ?His subjects often tell stories. They may be made of cast iron, steel, wood, or aluminum.?

Davis said Flores also likes to use duct tape, hot-glue and even a Sharpie in his works.

?Some pieces are humorous, depicting friends or family,? she said. ?He said: ?They are best made on a full stomach, created with a smile or a grin.??

For more information about the event, call Davis at 620-382-7501 or Jeanice Thomas at 620-382-3206.
