Kansas State University Research and Extension will host an informational meeting Thursday, Sept. 17 for citizens regarding restoring and protecting the upper and lower Cotton?wood River Watershed.
The meeting is particularly relevant to those living in Marion and Chase counties.
The meeting is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at the Hillsboro City Hall at 118 E. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro. A complimentary meal will be served.

The meeting, part of Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy effort, will cover the basics, including the definition of a watershed, as well as specific information about the Cottonwood WRAPS effort.
Information about long-term goals, who can be involved and how, plus details on cost-share and technical assistance will be presented.
WRAPS focuses on such issues as eroding streambanks, erosion in cropland and livestock areas, bacteria from livestock areas, failing septic systems and sedimentation in lakes.
Attendees will learn about water-quality problems in the Cottonwood River Watershed, how landowners can be involved in addressing them and how they can access funding to help pay for actions they take.
