The Marion-Florence FFA chapter placed second overall at the South Central District FFA Public Speak?ing Career Development Event at Buhler, Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Participants presented prepared speeches ranging from two to four minutes for freshmen and six to eight minutes for the senior division.
Elizabeth Meyer placed first in the senior division, which qualifies her for state competition held in conjunction with the state FFA convention in May.
Participants in the senior division were required to give a speech on an agriculture topic, then answer five minutes of questions about the speech.
Meyer also qualified for state by placing second in the extemporaneous division. Participants draw a topic, then are given 30 minutes to prepare a four- to six-minute speech about the topic and answer five minutes of questions.
Cade Harms placed seventh and Aidan Cairns placed 10th in the senior division. Caleb Hett placed third in the sophomore division and Carley Stapleford placed 10th in the junior division.
Also competing from Marion were Kaitlyn Goebel, Taylor May, Jenna Helmer, Noak Kukuk, Colton Mercer and Devin Soyez.
