CRP acres opened for grazing

Emergency grazing of Con?ser?vation Reserve Program acreage has been approved for Marion County contract holders.

This livestock grazing authority is permitted only for certain specific CRP practices. Appli?cants must apply with the county Farm Service Agency office on an individual contract basis prior to performing actions and identify those fields where grazing will be intended.

Should the CRP cover be destroyed, the practice must be re-established at the producer?s own expense to remain in compliance with the CRP contract.

Participants will work with the Natural Resources Conserva?tion Service to develop a forage management plan which governs how grazing is to be performed.

Participants must also accept a 25 percent reduction in the annual rental payment for the acres actually grazed.

Emergency grazing is allowed through Sept. 30. Parti?ci?pants shall leave at least 25 percent of each field ungrazed for wildlife, or graze not more than 75 percent of the stocking rate.

All livestock must be removed by the earlier of Sept. 30 or the end of the grazing period.
