County FSA office inviting candidates for local committee

The Marion County Farm Service Agency committee is seeking interested farmers to serve as candidates for the local county committee election to be held this fall.

Nomination forms must be postmarked or received in the FSA county office by close of business on Aug. 1.

Marion County farmers and ranchers can nominate themselves or any other producer in Local Administration Area 2 to run for a seat on the committee.

Organizations representing minorities and women producers are especially encouraged to nominate candidates. LAA 2 consists of Catlin, Centre, Doyle, Fairplay, Gale, Grant, Milton, Peabody, Summit and Wilson township units.

FSA county committees make decisions on commodity price support loans, conservation programs, disaster programs, employing county executive directors and other significant agricultural issues.

To hold office as a county committee member, a person must meet the basic eligibility requirements. For example, the person must participate or cooperate in a program administered by the agency, be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area in which the person is a candidate. Committee members serve three-year terms.

The locally elected committees are responsible for making national farm programs fit the needs and situations faced by local producers and bring local expertise and knowledge to USDA?s daily delivery of programs and services.

Nomination form FSA-669 is available at the county office and online at fsa.usda.gov/elections. Select ?Election Materials? and click ?2012 Nomination Form.?

After the nomination period has passed, FSA will mail ballots to producers beginning Nov. 5.
