Beef program planned for Jan. 8

Countryside Feed LCC of Hillsboro and the Marion County Extension Office are joining forces to bring a beef management program to Marion County in January.

The program is is planned 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

K.C. Olson, professor of cow/calf nutrition at Kansas State University, will speak on utilizing forages to lengthen the grazing season and reduce beef costs.

Charles Lee, a K-State animal science extension specialist, will speak on pond management, addressing aquatic weed control and dam maintenance.

Robert Wilson, a K-State watershed planner, will discuss ways producers can implement agricultural practices to protect water quality.

A meal will be served, so participants should reserve a seat by calling the Marion County extension office at 620-382-2325 or sending an e-mail to rroberts@ksu.edu.
