Marion had an off night at Remington tonight, unable to find their rhythm and come up with the win. They fell in two sets to Moundridge (13-25, 21-25) before losing a three-game battle with the host team (25-23, 21-25, 13-25).
Moundridge quickly took the lead in Game 1, stringing together eight unanswered points to go up, 14-9. Marion replied with a five-point scoring burst capped with at Briana Hall kill to narrow the gap, 15-10, but the Wildcats ran away with a seven-point streak to eventually take the game, 25-13. Moundridge extended the margin early in the second set as well, taking a lead Marion would not take away despite a late surge for the final score, 25-21.
After Remington took down Moundridge, the Broncos were set back on their heels as Marion ran away with the lead in the early part of their three-game match. But Remington rallied to close the margin, tying it up, 18-18, before taking the lead on a seven-point scoring streak. An ace from Megan Richmond tied it again, 22-22, and a tip from Montana Percell at the net gave the Warriors the first set win. But Remington came out swinging in the second game, scoring five unanswered points to start the set and quickly pulling away. Back-to-back kills from Hall and Kirsten Hansen, followed by a block from Hall and tip from Kaelyn Thierolf, got Marion back in the game as an ace from Richmond tied it, 13-13. However, after a flurry of lead changes around the 20-point mark, Remington pulled away to gain their 25-21 victory. Three straight aces gave the Broncos the edge to start the final game and Marion was never able to recover, letting the lead and the match slip away to absorb the 13-25 loss.
Marion is scheduled to participate in the Belle Plaine tournament Saturday.
