UPDATE: County extends burn ban to at least Feb. 23

The Marion County Commission decided at its Tuesday, Feb. 17, special meeting to extended the county-wide burn ban until at least Monday, Feb. 23, the date of its next regular meeting.

The ban was extended because the U.S. Weather Service reported expectations of dry, windy weather until then.

Michelle Abbott-Becker, director of Marion County Emergency Management, said conditions reports updated every three hours also showed a ?red flag? for burning.

The commissioners directed her to help develop language for a resolution that places responsibility on landowners to call a county toll-free number that will tell them whether it?s OK to burn rather than waiting for the commission to decide at its weekly meetings. That number is 1-866-786-7625.
