Tabor sweeps Kansas Wesleyan to remain unbeaten in KCAC play

The Tabor College basketball teams continued their winning ways with a sweep of Kansas Wesleyan Saturday. Both Bluejay squads moved to 2-0 in conference play.

Women?Tabor defeated a Coyote team receiving votes, 75-63, Saturday.

Following an 11-11 tie, Kristyn Wedel and Jurnee Reid scored back-to-back baskets to give Tabor a 15-11 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Tabor outscored the Coyotes, 20-11, in the second quarter. Wedel scored to ignite a 10-0 Bluejay run. The Coyotes? scoring drought lasted more than four minutes. Tabor maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the quarter and enjoyed a 35-22 advantage at halftime.

The Bluejays continued to build their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Kansas Wesleyan, 24-18. Tabor led, 59-40, by the end of the period.

Although the Coyotes outscored Tabor, 23-16, in the fourth quarter, Tabor?s lead remained in double figures to the end.

As a team, Tabor shot just over 55 percent from the field (26-47). Reid and Kaleigh Troxell shared top scoring honors with 12 points each. Tena Loewen added 11.

Lance Carter scores off a turnover to give Tabor a 23-18 lead over Kansas Wesleyan. Carter led all scorers with 21 points in Tabor?s 84-78 win.Men?Tabor defeated the Coyotes, 84-78. The Bluejays built a double-digit lead by halftime, 46-33, but Kansas Wesleyan outscored Tabor in the second half to keep things interesting. The Bluejays hung on for the 6-point win.

Kansas Wesleyan took the early lead, but after a 9-9 tie, the Bluejays took the lead for good when John Jedneak made a two-pointer and Jordan Horstick followed with a three-point basket.

With Tabor leading, 26-20, Malik Brooks drained a three to ignite a 10-0 Bluejay run to give Tabor its largest margin of the night at 16. Tabor maintained a double-digit advantage through halftime. Alan Urrutia drained a three right before intermission?he made three of four on the night?to give Tabor a 46-33 margin.

The Coyotes used a 12-4 run after halftime to cut Tabor?s lead to 50-45. Lance Carter and Urrutia combined for an 8-0 run after that to put Tabor in front by 13.

Kansas Wesleyan chipped away at the deficit, and drew within 68-61 with 6:40 to play. The Coyotes narrowed the gap to four, 75-71, with 2:21 to go, but Tabor held on to win by six.

As a team, Tabor shot 46.6 percent from the field (27-58). Carter led all scorers with 21 points. Urrutia had 19, Brooks 13 and Jedneak 11.

Coming?Tabor will host Friends Tuesday. The women?s game is at 6 p.m. The men?s game is at 8 p.m.
