It’s been a good week for the Tabor men’s and women’s basketball teams, and it just got better as both Bluejay teams handled conference rival Bethel College on the road tonight to pick up back-to-back victories.
Men – Tabor downed the Threshers in a scorefest, 96-71, to improve to 3-1 in the KCAC and 4-9 overall. Tonight marks the Bluejays’ third straight win in conference play, putting them in a four-way battle for second in the standings behind the University of Saint Mary.
The Bluejays soared past Bethel in the first half, leading 42-22 at the break. They outscored the Threshers, 49-44, in a high-scoring second half to come away with the victory.
Robbie Samuel led the charge offensively with 21 points, followed by 14 points from Ryan Chippeaux, 13 from Brent Jackson and 12 from Reggie Butler. Nick Sauer led on the glass with 10 rebounds, helping Tabor to out-rebound Bethel, 46-35.
Tabor is scheduled to take the week off before playing an exhibition game at Northern Colorado Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. and hosting Avila University Dec. 31 at 3 p.m.
Women – The Bluejays earned their fourth straight conference victory and stay just behind Southwestern College at No. 2 in the conference standings, taking out the Threshers, 71-42. The Bluejays cruised to the win, holding a 39-20 lead at halftime and outscoring Bethel by 10 points in the second half.
Tabor guards Nikki Lewis and Katlyn Mary shared top scoring honors with 19 points a piece, helped out by Janelle Rust with 10 points. Jazmyne Smith led on the glass with seven rebounds, and Rust added six boards.
The Bluejays are slated to compete at the AIB College of Business Tuesday before playing an exhibition game Saturday at Oklahoma Christian University. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
