Suspects in custody following car theft attempt

A man and woman are in custody at the Marion County Jail Wednesday after attempting to steal a vehicle during the early evening Jan. 13.

Anthony Magee of Wichita and Jennifer Humphrey of Salina were observed at 8 p.m. trying to take the vehicle at 1028 110th Road in Peabody, according to Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft.

?Magee fled to a teal passenger car driven by Humphrey, which drove off while Magee was trying to enter the vehicle,? he said.

Unable to get into the car, Humphrey was left behind on foot.

In addition to the sheriff?s office, other local law enforcement officials and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the search for both people, Craft said.

KHP provided a helicopter equipped with Forward Looking Infrared or FLIR, but was unable to locate the male suspect traveling on foot.

?The teal vehicle was located, disabled and abandoned near Nighthawk and 110th Road,? he said. ?The search continued for both individuals throughout the night.?

Humphrey was found and arrested about 3 a.m., while Magee was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday near Limestone and 90th.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information is available.
