State seedings announced for state baseball and softball

Seedings for the Class 3A softball and baseball state tournaments were released Friday. Both tournaments will be in Manhattan — softball at the Twin Oaks Complex and baseball at Tointon Family Stadium.

BASEBALL

The Hillsboro baseball team will see action first, opening the tournament at 1:30 p.m. Friday as the No. 4 seed with a record of 16-5. The Trojans will take on No. 5 Silver Lake (15-7).

If the Trojans win that game, they will advance to the semifinal game at 10 a.m. Saturday against either No. 1 Council Grove (23-0) or No. 8 Frontenac (13-10).

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Wellsville (20-3) and No. 7 Bluestem (15-7) will meet at 4 p.m. Friday in a first-round game, and No. 3 Thomas More Prep (19-4) will face off against Wichita Independent (15-7) at 6:30 p.m. The semifinal game between the winners will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The third-place game is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Saturday and the championship game is set for 5:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Hillsboro softball team will take the field at Twin Oaks at 7 p.m. Friday as the No. 5 seed with a 19-4 record against Frontenac, the No. 4 seed at 19-3. The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 1 Caney Valley (20-1) and Marys?ville (12-11) in the semifinal game at 10 a.m. Saturday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Osage City (20-3) will take on Halstead (14-9) in a first-round game at 5 p.m. Friday, while No. 3 McClouth (20-3) will play No. 6 Larned (14-9) at 7 p.m. The semifinal game will be at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The third-place game is scheduled for noon Saturday and the championship game is set for 1 p.m.
