SEARCH UPDATE at Marion Reservoir

The search continues at Marion Reservoir for the missing boater identified as Timothy Kliewer, 71, of Hillsboro. The search began late Thursday afternoon when a report came in to the Marion County Sheriff?s office about a capsized catamaran sighted in the middle of lake.

Search efforts were hampered over the weekend due to high winds, which prevented the use of watercraft in the search. The shoreline and patrol search did continue, but nothing was discovered, according to Sheriff Rob Craft. A search by air was completed Sunday afternoon and again Monday morning to no avail.

Monday morning the winds subsided to the point where it was safe to deploy watercraft in the search and four boats were launched, Craft said. Two of the watercraft were equipped with high-resolution side-scan sonar, which is used to display underwater objects. Aircraft may be available again later today with the ground search continuing at this time.
