Regional seeds announced for 3A softball, baseball

 

The Hillsboro softball team will open as the No. 2 seed and the baseball team as the No. 3 seed at next week?s regional tournaments, while Marion?s baseball team will begin the post-season as the No. 2 seed and the Warrior softball team will be a No. 3 seed.

SOFTBALL

In softball, the defending Class 3A champion Trojans (16-4) will open at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, on their home field against No. 7 Halstead (2-15). The winner will take on the winner of No. 3 Haven (11-3) and No. 6 Sedgwick at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Cheney (17-1), with a bye in the first round of the seven-team tournament, will play the winner of No. 4 Lyons (12-4) and No. 5 Hutch Trinity (8-6) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The championship game is schedule for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday.

Marion, meanwhile, also will be playing on its home field as part of the seven-team Marion regional. The Warriors (8-8) will face No. 6 Riley County (7-11) at 4:45 p.m. Monday. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 2 Rossville (9-9) and No. 7 St. Marys (3-15) in the semifinals at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Council Grove (10-6), the only team with a winning record, will get a first-round bye, then will face the winner of No. 4 Herington (9-10) and No. 5 Southeast of Saline (9-11) in the semifinals at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The championship game will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BASEBALL

As the No. 1 and 2 seeds at the Marion regional, No. 1 seeded Southeast of Saline (16-4) and the Warriors (13-5) each received a bye in the first round of the six-team tournament. Marion will play the winner of No. 3 Hillsboro (9-9) and No. 6 Ellsworth (1-15), who will square off at 5:30 p.m. Monday. The semifinal game will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Southeast of Saline will play the winner of No. 4 Halstead (6-12) and No. 5 Haven (4-10) at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The championship game will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
