Pep rally this Friday in Newton to honor Jim Ryan

The Kansas Sports Museum, located in the Chisholm Trail Mall in Newton, will be hosting a pep rally featuring track and field legend, congressman, author and educator Jim Ryan starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. The pep rally will honor the Wichita East High, University of Kansas and Olympic legend on the 50th anniversary of his sub-4 minute mile run. Ryan will speak about what motivated and inspired him to compete at a level unseen prior to 1964. The pep rally, which will be broadcast live on KWCH-TV starting at 6 p.m., also will feature a drumline showcase, a cheer showcase, food vendors, door prizes and a grand-prize drawing.
