The pairings were released today (Thursday) for the Class 3A state tournaments for softball and baseball.
The Hillsboro Trojans (13-10) will make their first-ever appearance in the state tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the undefeated and highly touted No. 1 seed, Thomas More Prep at 5 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Twin Oaks Complex (Field A) in Manhattan.
If the Trojans get past TMP, they would play the winner of No. 4 Osage City (18-3) and No. 5 Silver Lake (18-4) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The third-place game would be played at noon Saturday (Field B) and the championship game would be played at 1 p.m. (Field A).
On the other half of the bracket, No. 2 Halstead (22-1) of the MCAA will square off against No. 7 Frontenac (14-7), and No. 3 Medicine Lodge (21-2) will take on No. 6 Rock Creek (17-6).
Hillsboro (18-5, including one bye victory in the regional tournament) is seeded sixth and will square off against No. 3 Galena (20-3) in a first-round game at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Norvell Field.
If HHS makes it to the semifinals, the Trojans would play the winner of No. 2 Doniphan County (19-2) and No. 7 Douglass (15-6).
The third-place game would be played at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and the championship game at 5:30 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Silver Lake will play No. 8 Larned (8-15), and No. 4 Medicine Lodge (19-4) will take on No. 5 Central Heights (17-4).
