Tara Simhiser, the Lehigh teenager believed to have been abducted yesterday, was found in Hiawatha late Thursday morning.
According to John D. Merchant, Brown County sheriff, a Hiawatha police officer located Simhiser, 17, at a bank in Hiawatha after someone there recognized her from an Amber Alert. She was in the bank to cash a check, Brown said.
The man suspected of abducting her, Rojelio Hernandez, 21, was arrested without incident in another part of town after police spotted a car that matched the description in the alert.
Merchant said the Sheriff?s Department was assisting Hiawatha police and was ready should the suspect car try to flee.
Authorities were called to the bank shortly before 11:30 a.m.
An Amber Alert was issued for Simhiser shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday.
No charges have been filed as yet. Hernandez remains in jail in Brown County, but Merchant said Simhiser should be back home with her family tonight (Thursday).
