The Marion basketball teams split their semifinal games at the Cougar Classic Saturday.
Girls?The Marion girls advanced to the final round of the Cougar Classic Basketball Tournament after their Saturday night victory against Wakefield, 55-40.
The Warriors started pulling away from the Bombers in the second quarter, ending the half leading, 34-23.
After expanding the lead to 52-29 at the end of the third quarter, the Warriors only managed to put up three points in the final quarter but rested comfortably on the lead they had built to end with a 15-point victory.
Boys?Marion suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Sacred Heart, 68-41, during the second round of the Cougar Classic Basketball Tournament Saturday night.
A minute into the game, Sacred Heart led by six points, 8-2, and after that Marion couldn’t even touch the Knights, as the deficit only grew larger and larger. Marion trailed, 40-17, at halftime. The second half was much the same story, with the Warriors behind by as much as 30 points at times before ending with a 27-point loss.
Coming?The girls will play Elyria Christian in the tournament finals Monday at 7 p.m. in the main gym of Centre High School. The boys will have the chance to play Wakefield for third place in the tournament Monday at 8:30 p.m. in the main gym.
