Marion residents alerted about second phone scam

The Marion Chamber of Commerce sent out an alert at about 2 p.m., Friday, April 1, regarding a scam involving mesages alleging to be from financial advisors at Edward D. Jones, 314 E. Main, Marion.

According to information from the Chamber, Tom Kimbrel and Helen Reznichek said the messages are asking for personal information and ?claiming? to be from Edward D. Jones.

They are both urging residents who may receive a telephone call like this to ?hang up.?

The first incident involved Marion County Farm Bureau on March 24.

According to Jayleen Hein, county coordinator, local people have been receiving telephone calls from Farm Bureau?s number, 620-382-2972, about lowering credit card debt.

?These calls are not from us,? Hein said.

Marion residents were advised not to answer their telephone if the caller ID displays 620-382-2972.

?If we need to contact anyone, we will leave a message,” she said about the calls in late March.
