Marion man killed in two-vehicle accident near Hillsboro

A Marion man died early Monday morning when his vehicle crashed into the back of a semi-trailer one mile east of Hillsboro on U.S. Highway 56.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Gary J. Alleven, 46, was in the westbound lane driving a 2012 Ford Fiesta when a semi-trailer driven by Samuel B. Unruh, 25, of Canton, pulled out from Santa Fe Street heading westbound.

Alleven?s vehicle rear ended the trailer of Unruh?s 2013 Kenworth, but no other details were available at press time.

Unruh was not injured in the accident, according to one official. Allevan and Unruh were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Marion County Undersheriff David Huntley notified the family.

In addition to KHP, also on the scene were the Marion County Sheriff?s office, Hillsboro Fire and Rescue and Hillsboro and Marion County EMS.

An official with KHP?Dispatch in Salina said no citations have been issued as yet and the investigation is continuing.
