The Marion volleyball team went 1-2 in a very competitive home triangular tonight, taking down Bennington before losing hard-fought contests with Ell Saline and Sedgwick. The Warriors now have a 6-9 overall season record.
The Warriors gained the advantage in the first game against Bennington for a 25-19 win, but had to duke it out for the second victory in overtime, 26-24. The Bulldogs went into the match with a 9-3 record.
Marion then lost matches to Ell-Saline (25-15, 25-22), a team that entered the triangular with a 12-1 record, and Sedgwick (25-16, 25-17), who remains undefeated with a 16-0 record coming in.
“The girls played well against really good teams,” said coach Deanna Theirolf. “I was glad to get a win against Bennington tonight. That was encouraging.”
The Warriors are scheduled to take the court this Saturday for the Marion Spikefest beginning at 9 a.m.
