A Marion County Lake resident is believed to have died early Tuesday morning prior to his vehicle losing control on U.S. 77, south of Florence, according to Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft. Kermit E. Dirksen, 76, while traveling southbound at about 9:15 a.m., veered off U.S. 77 into a hay meadow where the 2007 Saturn he was driving struck a fence. ?Upon investigation by law enforcement, emergency medical personnel and the Marion County coroner,? Craft said, ?it is believed that a medical condition was the cause of the accident and Mr. Dirksen had expired prior to the accident.? Dirksen was a construction technician for PKHLS Architecture of El?Dorado and Newton. Services are pending with Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.
