Lyons ends Hillsboro boys’ season in sub-state final

Hillsboro?s run for a state tournament berth ended in disapointment Saturday night as those upstart Lyons Lions shut down the Trojan scorers and will advance to Hutchinson next week on the heels of a 57-41 victory.

The Trojans fired blanks most of the night, finishing (unofficially) with 15-for-44 shooting (34 percent). Lyons started slowly, too, making one of 17 attempts in the first quarter, and Hillsboro held a tenuous 6-5 lead.

The Lions heated up quickly in the first half of the second period, making five of their first six shots to take a 16-10 lead. At halftime the score stood at 20-16, Lyons.

Trojan fans hoping for some change in fortune in the second half were left wanting. Hillsboro did manage to cut the margin to 32-28 after three quarters, but an 8-2 Lyons run to start the fourth period set the tone for the final outcome.

Daniel Jost led Hillsboro?s tepid offense with 11 points. Nobody else broke double figures as the Trojans end the 2007-08 campaign with a 13-10 record.
