Law enforcement responds to man with gun

A 36-year-old Hillsboro man walked into El Lorito Mexican Restaurant in Hillsboro late Thursday afternoon threatening to kill someone, according to a 911 caller.

The alleged gunman, Irineo Martinez, was taken into custody a short time after police arrived at the scene, a law enforcement official said.

While details were sketchy Friday, Marion County Sheriff Rob Craft said officers from Hillsboro, Marion and the county, were dispatched after the 911 call alleging, “a man with a gun” was issuing threats.

When officers arrived minutes later, Craft said police spoke to people in the restaurant, who directed them to Martinez’ upstairs apartment.

“Officers entered the apartment and found the man who allegedly made the threat,” Craft said. “He was handcuffed and detained until all the information was sorted out.”

The man was transported to the Marion County Jail for processing, where he remained Friday, Craft said.

“A handgun was found in the apartment which had been hidden,” he added.

“With the help of all law enforcement officials who responded, and their sound tactics in establishing a secure perimeter and contacting the suspect, this was handled with no injuries to anyone,” he said.

“I firmly believe the joint tactical response training that the LEO departments in Marion County practice together, helped to resolve this situation in this manner. “

The investigation is continuing.
