Hillsboro volleyball seeded No. 1 at Herington sub-state

Hillsboro will begin its post-season quest for a third consecutive state volleyball title Saturday as the No. 1 seed at the Class 2A sub-state tournament in Herington.

The two-time defending 3A champs will bring a 35-1 record against a first-round opponent to be determined by a play-in game between Solomon (10-24) and Berean Academy (6-21).

If Hillsboro wins in the first round, the Trojans will meet the winner of No. 4 Canton-Galva (21-18) and No. 5 Hope/White City (17-17) in the semifinals.

On the other side of the bracket are first-round matches between No. 2 Remington 26-10 vs. No. 7 Peabody-Burns (12-18), and between No. 3 Chase County (24-11) and No. 6 Herington (14-21).

The play-in game will begin at 1 p.m., with games proceeding after a 20-minute warmup following the previous match.
