Hillsboro secures berth in Class 2A state volleyball tournament

The Hillsboro volleyball team lived up to its billing as the top-ranked squad in Class 2A by sweeping through the Herington sub-state tournament Saturday in impressive style and securing a berth in the state tournament on Friday in Emporia.

Hillsboro defeated Berean Academy in the first round, 25-11, 25-10, then beat the host school in the semifinals, 25-6, 25-10, before sweeping Remington in the finals, 25-15, 25-14.

With the three victories, the Trojans, who have won two Class 3A titles in a row, will take 38-1 record to Emporia as they try to add a 2A crown to their collection.
