Hillsboro High School is back in Class 3A with the announcement Friday by the Kansas State High School Activities Association of the new classifications for 2014-15. A year ago HHS was assigned to Class 2A for all activities except football, where it remained in 3A. HHS had been a 3A school for nearly 40 years.
Five 3A schools have smaller enrollments than Hillsboro, with 163 students. Marion is one of those schools, with 160 students. The cutoff was 154 students.
Peabody-Burns, with 96 students, is the smallest school in Class 2A.
Centre and Goessel will continue as 1A schools with enrollments of 83 and 82, respectively.
The classifications were calculated on enrollment numbers for ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade students as of Sept. 22.
