Hillsboro girls the No. 1 seed at Sterling sub-state; HHS boys No. 8

With a flip of the coin, the Hillsboro High School girls have been named the No. 1 seed in next week?s sub-state basketball tournament in Sterling. The Trojans (15-5) will open play at Brown Gymnasium in Hillsboro against No. 8 seeded Ellinwood (7-13).

All first-round games in the girls? bracket will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the home court of the higher seeded team. The semifinals and finals will be played at Sterling.

The winner of that first-round game will face the winner of No. 4 Halstead (9-11) and No. 5 Sedgwick (9-11) in the semifinals Friday. Game time will be determined following Tuesday?s games.

Remington, meanwhile, has an identical record as HHS at 15-5. Having lost the coin flip, the No. 2 seeded Broncos will host No. 7 Lyons (5-15). The winner of that game will play for a berth in the semifinals against the winner of No. 3 Southeast of Saline and No. 6 Sterling (6-14).

All first-round games in the boys? bracket will be played at 7 p.m. Monday on the home court of the higher-seeded team. The semifinals and finals will be played at Sterling.

The girls? championship game is set for 6 p.m. Saturday.

BOYS

The Hillsboro boys, seeded eighth at 2-18, will play their first-round game at 7 p.m. Monday on the home court of top-seeded Halstead (16-4). The winner of the game will play the winner of No. 4 Remington (11-9) and No. 5 Southeast of Saline (9-11) in the semifinals game Thursday, at a time to be determined.

On the other half of the bracket, the winner of Monday?s game between No. 2 Sedgwick (13-7) and No. 7 Lyons (5-15) will play the winner of No. 3 Sterling (12-8) and No. 6 Ellinwood (7-13) in the semifinals game on Thursday.

The boys? championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
