The Hillsboro Community Hospital declared bankruptcy on Wednesday, March 13. The Empower owned hospital was placed fully into the hands of the Receiver, Cohesive Healthcare Management and Consulting, on March 5.

Olivia Robinson, who works in Human Resources at the hospital, responded to questions regarding the bankruptcy with a prepared statement.

She said, “On behalf of the Hillsboro Community Hospital, the Receiver has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Since the Receivership was appointed on January 18, the hospital, through the incredible dedication of its staff has initiated a tremendous turnaround. This action will allow that activity to continue and for the hospital and clinic to continue providing patient care.”

The hospital will continue to serve those in need and remains open.

“This filing does not mean the hospital is closing. The action is taken to protect the improvements that have been made and to continue on that pathway,” said Robinson.

HCH was one of two Empower owned hospitals that filed bankruptcy this week. According to an article published today in Becker’s Hospital Review, Horton Community Hospital also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy the day after on March 14, just two days after Horton closed.

We will have more information as it becomes available on our website and in next week’s paper.
