Hillsboro boys fall to Marion in consolation matchup

Struggling to find their focus and intensity, Hillsboro boys followed their overtime loss to state-ranked Thomas More Prep on Tuesday with a 59-49 loss tot he Marion Warriors in the consolation round of the Trojan Classic on Thursday afternoon.

The two teams battled through three quarters pretty much at a standoff. The game was tied at 18 after one quarter and the Trojans led by one point at halftime (29-28) and after three quarters (44-43).

But in the final period, Marion showed more heart down the stretch to finish the contest with an 8-0 run over the last 4:00.

David Loewen led the Trojans with 21 points before fouling out with 1:53 left in the contest and HHS trailing 53-49. Clay Shewey tossed in 20 points, but only two in the second half.

Calvin Jeffrey led three Marion scorers in double digits with 14 points, with Eric Vogel added 13 and Justin Heidebrecht 11.

Hillsboro will play for seventh place at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in the Middle School gym, while Marion will play for fifth at the same time in Brown Gymna?sium.
