The Southeast of Saline jinx continued for Hillsboro on Thursday evening as the maroon-clad Trojans lost once again to their purple namesakes in the finals of a regional softball tournament.
This time the score was 3-0 at Southeast?s home field.
The difference in the game was hitting. SES managed seven hits and drew six walks against Hillsboro?s Jenesa Klose, while Hillsboro managed a scant two hits against Cassie Schlesener of SES.
Southeast scored a run in the first inning on a single, a walk and then a single by Elissa Stein. In the fourth, SES scored again, this time combining three hits and a walk. The final run scored in the sixth on a single, walk and a single to load the bases, and then another walk to force the run home.
Hillsboro?s biggest scoring threat came in the second inning when a single by Lora Andrews, a sacrifice bunt by Suzy Lindsay, a walk by Rachelle Goldsby and a ground out by Briana Loewen put runners at second and third with two outs. But Amber King flied out to right to end the inning.
To reach the finals, Hillsboro defeated Marion, 13-3, in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Hillsboro combined several Warrior fielding mistakes with 12 hits in the first two innings to jump to an 11-0 lead.
Marion scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth on two hits and a Trojan error.
Hillsboro came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth and then ended the game by run rule with another run in the bottom of the sixth.
Hillsboro completes its season with an 11-7 record.
