HHS secures No. 1 seed at sub-state volleyball tourney

On the strength of its wins over Sedgwick and Hutch Trinity on Tuesday, the Hillsboro volleyball team secured the No. 1 seed at the Class 3A sub-state tournament in Marion on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Hillsboro comes into the tournament with a 31-6 record, edging Remington for the top seed. The Broncos are 29-6.

Hillsboro will match up with No. 8 seed Marion (13-20) starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. The remaining first-round matches will follow in this order: No. 4 Sacred Heart (29-8) vs. No. 5 Sedgwick (25-10); No. 2 Remington (29-6) vs. Moundridge (17-16); and No. 3 Halstead (29-8) vs. No. 6 Southeast of Saline.

The tournament follows a one-court, single-elimination format to determine the winner and a berth at the Class 3A state tournament in Salina next weekend.
