Goessel volleyball advances to state semifinals after pool play sweep

The Goessel volleyball team swept its three pool play matches at the Class 1A, Division I state volleyball tournament Friday at Fort Hays State University.

As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Goessel (39-0) faced No. 8 Clifton-Clyde (15-16) to start the day. The Bluebirds won, 2-0 (25-10, 25-8).

Goessel then defeated No. 5 Waverly (33-4) in two sets (25-8, 25-10).

The Bluebirds concluded pool play with a victory over No. 4 Rosalia-Flinthills (34-3) in two sets (25-16, 25-4).

Goessel advances out of pool play and will face sixth-seeded LaCrosse in the semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m. The winner will play either third-seeded and defending state champion Centralia or Waverly for the championship title.

The finals will start 15 minutes after the conclusion of the last semifinal match.
