Goessel volleyball advances to semi-final round of state tournament

Goessel went 2-1 and advances to the semi-finals of the Class 1A-Division I state tournament to face No. 2 Hoxie Saturday at 10 a.m.The fifth-seeded Goessel Bluebird volleyball team went 2-1 in pool play at the Class 1A-Division I state volleyball tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Fort Hays State University Friday to clinch the Pool 1 runner-up title.

After a first-game loss to No. 4 Spearville (25-20, 25-14), Goessel defeated No. 1 Caldwell in three sets (20-25, 25-7, 25-22)?and followed with a two-set victory over No. 8 LaCrosse (25-18, 25-16).

As runners-up to Spearville, Goessel advances to the semi-final round to be played Saturday. The Bluebirds will face No. 2 Hoxie, who won Pool 2, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Hoxie defeated No. 7 Scandia-Pike Valley (25-21, 25-17), No. 6 Waverly (25-8, 25-18) and No. 3 Centralia (25-21, 25-20) in pool play.

In the second semi-final game, No. 4 Spearville will face No. 3 Centralia, also at 10 a.m.

Championship and consolation games are scheduled to start 15 minutes after the last semi-final game ends.
