The Goessel High School boys basketball team edged Inman 34-30 despite a tough shooting night Friday. The girls lost 50-39.
GHS took a 10-4 lead on its home floor in the first quarter, but scored just 12 points total in the middle quarters. Inman used a 12-6 run in the third quarter to take a 23-22 lead, but Goessel outscored the Teutons 12-7 in the fourth. Kendall Voth led the Bluebirds with 10 points. Travis Fensky scored 9 and Niko Herman scored 8. GHS made just 29 percent of its shots, but also limited Inman to 32 percent from the field?and forced 15 turnovers. The turnover differential gave Goessel four more shots than Inman took, and quantity trumped quality Friday night.
The girls trailed 12-11 through one quarter and were down 24-20 at halftime. But the wheels came off in the third quarter, as Inman outscored the Bluebirds 13-2 coming out of halftime. Kendra Flaming scored 12 points in the fourth and led GHS to a 17-point frame, but the game proved out of reach. Flaming finished with 18 points. Mishaun Pfannenstiel scored a game-high 28 points.
