Fire destroys mobile home in Marion

Fire destroyed a mobile home at 526 Cleveland in Marion late Wednesday afternoon, and according to officials, the cause is still undetermined.

The trailer was owned by John Anderson and was vacant with no utilities hooked up at the time of the blaze, said Fire Chief Mike Regnier.

?We didn?t see any signs of foul play,? he said, ?and even though we saw nothing suspicious, it still makes someone wonder (how the fire started).?

Due to the odd circumstances, Regnier said the Kansas State Fire Marshal?s office was called to investigate and make a determination.

Paul Thomas, an investigator with the State Fire Marshal?s office, was at the scene Thursday. In his preliminary report, Regnier said Thomas concluded the cause of the fire was also undetermined.

Regnier said it isn?t unusual for the cause of fires to be ruled as undetermined, but Thomas did say he would be back next week for a final review.

The Marion Fire Department responded to the fire just after 5:30 p.m. when a nearby neighbor called 911, he said.

Although the outside of the mobile home had little damage, the inside was completely destroyed.

The estimated amount of damage was unavailable at press time.
