Committee to discuss jail funding, more Sept. 9

The Marion County Public Safety and Law Enforcement Center Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the conference room at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

Agenda items for the meeting could include deciding which of two architects will continue working with the group on a facility that would house a jail, 911 dispatch and emergency management facility.

In addition, the group may talk about funding for a new facility and whether bond council discussions yielded any other options.

The committee has not ruled out the option of transferring prisoners to other facilities and foregoing a new facility. But, until the group receives requested financial breakdowns on housing prisoners in Marion County and other related budget items, no informed decision can be made. The committee has asked the Marion County Commissioners several times for help in gathering the information.

For questions or input regarding the jail committee, call Marion County Sheriff Rob Craft at 620-382-2144.
