The following are unofficial results for both contested and uncontested city council races Tuesday, April 5. According to Tina Spencer, election officer, the totals include combined regular and advance ballots.
Marion — In the city council race, of the five people vying for two seats, only one of the incumbents, Melissa Mermis, was re-elected with 69 votes.
Chris Costello, one of the challengers, received the most votes overall with 166, defeating incumbent Jerry Dieter, who received 47 votes. John Wheeler and Michel Soyez, received 64 and 63 votes, respectively.
Of the 1,282 registered voters in Marion 303 people voted, a 24 percent turnout.
Hillsboro — In the city council race, both incumbents were re-elected with no challengers or write-in ballots received. In Ward I, Brent Driggers received 20 votes; in Ward II, Byron McCarty received 33.
With 820 eligible voters in Ward I, the turnout was 3 percent. In Ward II, 4 percent of the 933 eligible voters cast ballots.
Burns — Three seats were open on the city council, but only two people officially filed. Ronald Goodwin received 17 votes and Tim Rogers 22.
With 106 registered voters, the turnout was 24 percent. In addition, 18 write-in votes were cast for a third council position.
All results are preliminary until the county commissioners canvass the votes Monday, April 11.
