Centre knocks off South Haven in 8-man II playoffs

Centre High School advanced to the Round of Eight in the 8-man II state playoffs with a 56-26 blowout of South Haven Tuesday night at Centre.

For the game, Centre quarterback Tanner Brunner threw for 289 yards and six touchdowns on 12-for-21 throwing.

The Cougars (8-1) led 40-12 by halftime and 56-18 after three quarters. The Cougar scores came on a 4-yard run by Brunner, a 19-yard pass from Brunner to Cole Svoboda, a 28-yard pass from Brunner to Rustyn Kerbs, a 15-yard pass to Christia Howell from Austin Shousman, a 45-yard pass from Brunner to Zach Antoszyk, an 8-yard run by Trevor Troutt, a 17-yard pass from Brunner to Austin Barlow, a 47-yard pass from Brunner to Alex Hajek, a 2-yard run by Barlow and a 50-yard pass from Brunner to Hajek.

Centre added 176 yards on the ground with Brunner runner for 72, Troutt for 67 and Kerbs for 37.

South Haven ends its season at 6-4.

Centre plays at Hanover (9-1) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
