Bluejays fall just short against York College, 76-73

The Tabor men’s basketball team just couldn’t pull it out in the end, missing three free throws in the final seconds to give up the 76-73 decision to York College tonight, falling to 0-6 on the season. The Bluejays are scheduled to play at the Sterling Classic Friday and Saturday, taking on Southwestern Assemblies of God University and Johnson & Wales University, before traveling to William Jewell College Nov. 20 for an exhibition game.

York got the jump on Tabor for an early lead. But the Bluejays strung together a seven-point run, including a three-pointer from freshman guard Reggie Butler, to take their first lead, 11-10, at 12:43. The advantage was short-lived, though, as York took back a lead. Butler sank another three and Robbie Samuel got the three-point play on the fouled post shot to give Tabor a 17-16 lead at the nine-minute mark. York took it back, and though Tabor drew as close as one point, the Panthers still led by three, 33-30, at the halftime break.

York came out sizzling, extending their lead with a seven-point scoring burst to gain a double-digit advantage for the first time in the contest. Tabor freshman Cameron Rust scored at the basket off an assist from classmate Chance LeBlanc to break the drought, but the Panthers would hover around a double-digit lead as the second half went on.

Play heated up as the clock wound down, and Tabor once more drew within oone point multiple times. With just four seconds remaining, and York College leading by three, LeBlanc was fouled on a three-point shot. But none of the shots at the line fell in, and the Panthers walked away with the narrow victory.
