ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The Marion County Extension Office exploring the demand for a tractor safety training class in Marion.
The school would be in April and designed for youth ages 14-15. The information to be presented should benefit all farm residents and workers who have not previously attended, according to Rickey Roberts, extension agent.
Training is required by law for those youth 14-15 years of age who will be operating a tractor owned by someone other than their parents.
If such a youth is planning to work for a farmer this summer, he or she must pass this course.
Even though it is not required by law, Roberts said it is a good idea for farm parents to have it their own kids participate in class.
The course would be held on a Saturday, and successful completion would consist of attending the lectures, watching the videos, passing a closed-book exam and having your employer complete the driving portion of the training.
Anyone interested in participating in such a course should contact the Marion County Extension Office at 620-382-2325.
