Six members of the Hillsboro High School Chess Guild will compete at the state tournament this Saturday at Maize High School. This is the first year of the guild’s existence. Some 500 to 600 students from kindergarten through grade 12 will compete in the statewide tournament. Rounds begin about 9:30 a.m. with a Swiss pairing format of six 30-minute rounds per person. To qualify for the state tournament, candidates must play in a minimum of two tournaments with at least two wins per tournament.
