JuliAnne Chisholm and Hannah Marsh each scored 14 points to lead the Hillsboro girls to a 54-37 win Friday (Feb. 23) over Smoky Valley at Lindsborg.
The win clinched at least a tie for the MCAA league title. The Trojans and Hesston entered Friday night with a 9-1 record in league play. Hillsboro led Smoky Valley 12-4 after one quarter and 29-13 at halftime. The score after three quarters was 38-24.
The win boosts Hillsboro’s season record to 17-3. The Trojans will open sub-state play Monday as the No. 2 seed behind Hesston. Hillsboro will play host to Halstead in the opening round at 7 p.m. Monday in Brown Gymnasium.
The Hillsboro boys meanwhile dropped a 54-40 decision to Smoky Valley. Hillsboro trailed 16-12 after one quarter and 27-21 at halftime. The score was 39-31 after three quarters.
The loss dropped Hillsboro to 10-10 for the season and 7-4 in league play.
The Trojans will open sub-state play at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a rematch against Marion on the Warriors’ home court.
