Centre-The Cougar girls won two games last week, defeating Chase County 69-30 on Friday and Wakefield 48-33 on Thursday.

Led by Megan Gutsch, who scored seven points in the first quarter, Centre took a 13-5 advantage out of the gate.

Alyssa Luna scored nine points in the second frame and the Cougars carried a 34-11 lead into halftime.

Selena Seifert scored seven points in the third quarter, while Chase County managed only six as a team.

Seifert finished with a game-high 17 points. Teaira Turner scored 14, Luna 11 and Gutsch 10. Maria Hunt led Chase County with 16 points.

On Thursday, Centre girls trailed 8-6 after the first but rallied for a 20-17 halftime lead.

Centre outscored Wakefield 17-14 in a frenetic third quarter, and the Cougars closed out the game by holding Wakefield to only two points in the fourth.

Centre scored 11 in the final frame in which Teaira Turner and Megan Gutsh each scored their 10th point of the night.

On the boys side, a 55-41 win over Chase County followed a 76-49 loss to Wakefield.

Kevin Mueller (13 points) and Seth Jirak (12 points) paced the Cougars against Chase County.

A 15-8 second-quarter run gave Centre some breathing room after a tight first quarter.

Each team scored 14 in the third frame, but Centre outpaced Chase County 20-13 in the fourth.

Alfonse Klenda grabbed 10 rebounds.

Against Wakefield, Klenda led the team with 13 points.

Centre began regional play on Monday night, but results were not available at press time.

Goessel-On Friday night against Sedgwick, both the boys and girls lost.

Sedgwick defeated the boys 52-43 and the girls 30-29.

Goessel began regional play on Monday night, with the girls defeating Burrton 46-40 behind 18 points from Kory Hiebert and 13 from Rinda Duerksen.

Results for the boys game were not available at press time.

Peabody-Burns-The Warrior boys went 0-2 and girls went 1-1 this week.

On Friday night against Bennington, the boys lost 71-50 and the girls lost 43-30.

On Feb. 13 against Remington, the boys lost 77-60 and the girls won 64-41.

PBHS went on the road for games at Berean Academy on Tuesday night.

Results for that game were not available at press time.

Canton-Galva-Moundridge defeated the boys team 45-44 on Friday night after the girls won their game 43-34.

The Eagles played Bennington at home on Tuesday night, but results from that game were not available at press time.
