Peabody-Burns-The Warrior boys got off to a fast start and beat Ell-Saline 66-47 on Friday. A 25-10 run in the first quarter gave the Warriors the margin they needed.

After being outscored 20-16 in the second period, PBHS allowed only nine points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth.

Derrick Simmonds paced the team with 22 points. Three others joined him in double digits: Todd Woodruff (10), Duane Unruh (11) and Nathan Bishop (11).

The Warrior girls lost to Ell-Saline 55-45. PBHS led 8-7 lead after the first quarter, but Ell-Saline bounced back with a 13-9 run in the second and a 23-16 run in the fourth. The third quarter was played to a 12-12 tie.

Canton-Galva vs. Goessel. Friday night pitted the Eagles against the Bluebirds, and the Canton-Galva girls took a 39-29 win. A 17-3 first-quarter run in Canton-Galva’s favor was decisive. Kaycie Shearer led all scorers with nine points, and Kory Hiebert paced Goessel with seven.

Centre. The Cougar boys fell to Olpe on Friday, 60-29. Alfonse Klenda scored four in the first quarter. Seth Jirak scored five in the first quarter. But Olpe scored 21 points in the opening frame and never looked back.

The Centre girls sprinted to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter of the early game and led 30-24 at halftime. But a 17-4 run in the third left the Cougars trailing 41-34 going into the fourth. They ended up on the low side of the 59-49 final score.

points for Centre. Alyssa Luna added 10.
