The Hillsboro girls got off to a strong start and were never threatened as they cruised to a 59-41 win at Nickerson on Tuesday night.

Hillsboro led 18-6 after one quarter and 34-19 by intermission. By the end of three quarters, the Trojans’ lead was 17 at 49-32 and grew as big as 56-32 in the final period before settling at 18 points.

JuliAnne Chisholm scored 23 points to lead all scorers. The win improves the girls’ record to 14-3 for the year and 7-1 in the MCAA.

The Trojan boys, meanwhile, found themselves in another low-scoring defensive battle for the second game in a row, but did claim a 39-27 victory.

Hillsboro led 6-4 after one quarter and extended the lead to 20-8 by halftime. The Panthers closed the gap to eight points after three quarters, 24-16, but poor free-throw shooting in the fourth quarter by both teams kept the margin in that same vicinity the rest of the way.

Lucas Hamm scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Trojans, who improved to 8-9 overall for the season and 5-3 in the league.
